How to Set Up Church Lighting for Better Worship

Good worship lighting begins with visibility.

Can people clearly see the person leading them?

Can cameras produce a good image?

Are faces properly lit?

Once that foundation is right, lighting can help create depth, focus and energy.

One mistake we see is spending heavily on effect lighting while front light remains poor.

A row of impressive moving lights doesn't compensate for a pastor whose face is half dark.

Start with good key light.

Build consistent color.

Create separation between people and the background.

Then add movement, color and texture where it serves the moment.

Lighting should support what is happening on the platform rather than constantly reminding everyone that somebody is operating lights.
