What Training Do AVL Volunteers Need?
Different volunteers need different levels of training.
Your FOH mixer needs to understand more about gain structure and EQ than your camera operator. Your camera operator needs to understand composition and movement.
Your lighting operator needs to understand focus, timing and color. Your stage manager needs excellent communication.
Match training to the volunteer role
What everyone needs is context.
They should understand what the service is trying to accomplish and how their role contributes to it.
We also like separating operator training from system-engineering training.
A volunteer doesn't need to know every piece of system architecture before they can run a service.
Give them what they need for their role.
Then create pathways for the people who want to go deeper.
That keeps training approachable without limiting growth.
