What Should Be in a Church Technology Job Description?

Don't write a church production job description as a list of equipment.

Knowing Yamaha, Allen & Heath, Dante, ProPresenter, Ross, Blackmagic or MA might be useful. It is not the job.

The job is leading the technical side of worship.

Hire someone who can lead people

That usually includes building volunteers, maintaining systems, collaborating with worship and teaching teams, planning services, troubleshooting, documenting workflows and managing projects.

Technical ability matters. So does communication. So does patience. So does the ability to teach somebody who has never touched a console.

One of the biggest mistakes churches make is hiring the strongest technician they can find without considering whether that person can build other people.

If the entire ministry falls apart whenever the technical director takes vacation, something is wrong.

Hire somebody who can create a healthy system and a healthy team.
