What's the Difference Between Sound, Lighting, and Projection?
Updated: Oct 12
Sound, lighting and video are different disciplines, but they’re all trying to do the same thing:
Help people focus on what matters.
Audio makes speech understandable and music engaging.
Lighting directs attention and makes the platform visible.
Projection and video communicate lyrics, teaching content and visual information.
Problems start when one of those departments begins working independently of everything else.
Great lighting that prevents your cameras from producing a usable image isn't actually great lighting.
A PA that sounds fantastic in one seat but terrible everywhere else isn't accomplishing the goal.
A giant screen filled with tiny text isn't helping anybody.
Good AVL design looks at the room as one experience.
That’s why we prefer to talk about the worship experience rather than individual pieces of equipment.
Nobody walks out of church thinking, “That was an excellent combination of independent technical subsystems.”
They experience all of it together.
Your technology should be designed the same way.
