How to Troubleshoot Common Church AVL Problems
When something stops working, start at one end of the signal chain and move in one direction.
Random button pressing is not a troubleshooting strategy.
Follow the microphone signal path
Take a microphone as an example.
Is the microphone producing signal? Is the receiver receiving it? Is signal reaching the console? Is the channel muted? Is it assigned correctly?
Is signal leaving the console? Is the DSP receiving it? Are the amplifiers on?
Work through the path logically.
The same idea works in video and lighting.
Find the last place where everything is correct. Then find the first place where it isn't.
The problem is somewhere between those two points.
Teaching volunteers this simple way of thinking is dramatically more useful than teaching them a hundred individual fixes.
